The Witcher | S2 | VFX Breakdown | Rodeo FX

After its global success in 2019 (Netflix’s biggest season one TV series ever), our teams were incredibly excited to join the second season of Geralt’s adventures through The Continent, as the lone wolf, Ciri, and Yennefer face their destiny.

Each episode of The Witcher is a new adventure, often bringing Geralt face to face with new villains, most of them dark beasts with their own genre and set of skills. This made our work even more challenging as we had to develop specific animations and designs for each creature we worked on. Using concept art provided by the studio, some of our creations such as the giant centipede were rendered entirely digitally. But others were actually based on live-action performances by actors on set. This was notably the case in episode 2, enhancing the performance of Basil Eidenbenz as he gets turned into a Leshy.

Beyond animation and creature development, our teams also worked on multiple environments, be it the frozen forest or the dark waters of the sewers where Zoug, the killer octopus lurks.

Working on a project like The Witcher and its impressive bestiary and vast universe is an endless stream of opportunities, each creature being even crazier than the last.
